Windows 7 though is pretty robust in terms battery life longevity as compared to windows vista.
But Windows 7 uses your laptops battery much more when your laptop in running on battery power,as it runs windows aero and windows glass.
There is freeware software Aerofoil that you can use to turn off the windows aero and windows glass ,when ever your laptop with windows 7 operating system is running on battery power.
Windows aerofoil also,automatically puts your laptop into power saving mode when ever your laptop id running on battery power.
Some features of windows aerofoil that you must be aware of:-
You can choose what plan you want to have for Ac and battery mode for your windows 7 OS,only when you are installing the software and cannot edit the power plan options later on.
Their is some flickering of the screen when the power is cut off to your laptop(as windows aero and glass is turned off) and again when power to your laptop is connected again(Windows aero and glass are turned on).
