If you are new to linux Ubuntu then believe me you are in for some surprises as it has some features that the most well sought operating systems lack.
One of those inbuilt applications is Disk Usage Analyzer GUI Tool-And what it does is,it enables you to check which files and folders are honing over how much of your hard disk space?
Now you must be saying-hey wait this feature is in their in windows as well, but my point here is that you don’t need to open the folder or drive even to have look at the size of the file or folder.
That means our disk usage analyzer is one step more that what my computer is in microsoft’s windows and if you have a blog or website you can even know the amount of space occupied by a particular folder in your server (thats something awesome).
So lets see how you can use Disk Usage Analyzer:-
The DUA tool is located in your Applications menu under the Accessories as shown in the picture below
As you run this application, you are given four options:-
1-you can scan your home directory
2-Make filesystem scan
3-Scan a specific folder individually
4-Scan a remote server(I just love this one)
If you choose the file system, you’ll probably have to wait for sometime as all the files in that particular disk will be scanned and then give you the results-but believe me its worth the wait as you get to see the cool application running(it does not take much longer though)
Now when the scan is completed you are presented with a neat looking circular chart on the right side and a percentage disk usage on the left hand side.
You can delete any files from here or go inside a folder to delete the unused files.
It gives you have the power to handle any file/application without even going inside it.
