Windows 7 though is pretty robust in terms battery life longevity as compared to windows vista.

But Windows 7 uses your laptops battery much more when your laptop in running on battery power,as it runs windows aero and windows glass.

There is freeware software Aerofoil that you can use to turn off the windows aero and windows glass ,when ever your laptop with windows 7 operating system is running on battery power.

Windows aerofoil also, automatically puts your laptop into power saving mode when ever your laptop id running on battery power.

Some features of windows aerofoil that you must be aware of:-

You can choose what plan you want to have for Ac and battery mode for your windows 7 OS,only when you are installing the software and cannot edit the power plan options later on.

Their is some flickering of the screen when the power is cut off to your laptop(as windows aero and glass is turned off) and again when power to your laptop is connected again(Windows aero and glass are turned on).

No need to panic it’s as simple as typing.

I love customizing my windows 7 and love the speed and elegancy of windows 7,what about u? and for that matter I love to do this with ubuntu and mint as well.

In this post We will see how to use a simple and open source(love open source) Windows 7 Log on background changer.

Windows 7 Log on Background Changer

Note:-You don’t really need to install this program in your computer to use it,it can be used as a portable application and can be carried in a flash drive and used.

After you have launched this program all you need to do is select the picture that you want to set as your windows 7 log on screen.

Bill Gates cool quote

If you are not satisfied with the windows 7 default images, you can also use your own images as your windows 7 log on screen.

Once you have selected the image that you want as your windows 7 log on screen simply click on apply.

Click yes on authorization and yes on the windows 7 UAC confirmation if it pops up.

UAC

Wait for a couple of seconds and boom your windows 7 log on screen background has been changed.

wait-changing log on screen background

Now when ever you log on to your computer you will see your selected image as your windows 7 log on screen.

You can also change the shadows of background, that you use as your windows 7 log on screen.

options

A few other settings that can be used are:-

Prevent other users from changing the log on screen background.

Resetting the images folder to default,i.e the windows 7 default image folder.

Although their are many different applcations to achieve the same task but this is the only one that has worked without any problems for me,since I started using windows 7.

Playing with windows 7 is really nice and easy, but what if you some how messed with the windows 7 operating system?

With the above lines said,We will see in this post how you can make image of your windows 7 installation.

This feature is present in all the versions of windows 7 (unlike windows vista).

Note:-You should try to make an image of your windows 7 installation as soon as possible after the installation as this will make your image small and fresh when ever you use it.

How to create an image in windows 7

Open your start menu and type backup.

Click on the Backup and restore option and then a new window will open up.

click on the backup and restore option

In this window, click on Create system image.

Click on create a new image

Now you will have to decide where do you want to save your windows 7 installation image.

In my case I have chosen to save the image to one of my external hard drives (you can burn these images in multiple DVDs as well)

Choose the drive that you want to store image in

Images of drives other than your windows 7 installation can also be made but then it will add up to your image size.

Select the drives that you want to include in the image

In the next windows you will get confirmation about how much disk space may be used to make your windows 7 image,if something does not look right you can still go back and change what ever you want to change.

Confirm the Restore image size

Once you have confirmed the image to burnt,a progress bar will appear while the image being created.

In my case i had to burn make an image of 18GB and it took around 22 minutes, this time may vary according to your system configuration.

Once the image has been made you will be asked whether you want to create a System Repair disk or not?

Create repair disc

I would recommend to make a system Repair disk and to save it in a safe place.

Once that is done you are now set to play with your windows 7 with much more freedom.

When you want to restore the system image, simply go to system Recovery options when your computer starts and restore your system, with the image that we created earlier.

How to maximize windows 7 pc battery life? This is one of those questions that most of do not ever care about. But how long your laptop battery lasts does count at times when you really need it.

You may have even changed your power plan to power saver but this is not the end of it as many other factors also contribute towards your battery life.

In this post we will see how you can get a detailed report of all those hidden factors that are causing your computers battery power to drain at a speed that you have almost no knowledge of.

To start with open your command prompt with administrator rights-Type Cmd in your start menu search box and right click on the command prompt, select Run as administrator.

You can also launch from within firefox-Launch any external application from within firefox.

Now type this in your command prompt window:-

Powercfg -energy

Command to generate power report in windows 7

Wait for a 60 seconds as it takes sometime for the report to produced and you can open the generated report in firefox as its saved in html format.

Once the report has been produced, see where has it been saved navigate to that folder and doulbe click on it.

How to analyze your computer’s battery report (power efficiency report)?

This report is split into 4 parts and all of them are not that important so you don’t really need to panic.

From to bottom you will see:-

1-Some info about your computer such as the name of your pc,manufacturer etc

Basic Info

2-This is the most important part of the battery report generated (contains errors)-After you read this section you will be getting some ideas as to what exactly is this part about.Try to fix these problems as these may account for draining more that 20 percent of your computers battery power.

Power Efficiency report-Errors

3-These are the warnings and if you think you can fix these problems then this will boost your battery to some extent

Battery warnings

4-This part of your windows battery report is just a information on which parts of your computer were inspected to generate the windows battery report.

Power efficincy report-Information

This report may be overwhelming but then in my case I had to only remove my external flash drive and my battery lasted for about 10 more minutes(that’s not huge but does count). You may ask your questions for particular errors that you get in the comments section.Similar Posts:

In almost every few hours I need to check the program that is taking up most of my computers RAM of my Windows 7 OS and really its annoying.

But today I found a bunch of cool applications that hop on your taskbar and when ever I need to check what’s going on in the background I simply click on them and done their I have it.

Takbar Meters

These are three separate meters that display

1-Utilization of total CPU
2-How much memory is being used up
3-Disk In-out meter

Task meter looks

Configuring these meters is pretty easy and one can easily set the Latency between updates.

1-CPU meter:-This displays the total of consumption of the processoring power of you computer by all the processes.

2-Memory meter:-Displays the memory consumption by different applications that are being used.

3-Disk Input-output Meter:-Tells you how much data is has been and is being moved from HDD to and from applications.

All of these are three different applications that when joined together represent the whole task manager.

You can also access the task manager by Right clicking on any one of them and choosing show taks manager.

All these applications are are portable so you need not install them, you can even carry them in a USB drive.

All of these Meters run nicely in both windows 7 32 and 64 bit versions.

You can also set them to run at the start up of your computers by placing the meters in the start menu folder.
